i've followed the video step by step, compiled app, get to login screen, try to login and crashes with error "app not original" please help
hi @ReaperDevil7
the 'app not original' error suggests the edits havent been completely/correctly done

you can try 'staging' your edits by doing 2 edits at a time then install n check.... for example edit 'only' app name string & base64 then install n check if any errors, and if no errors you proceed to edit package name string & base64 etc etc - this way you can easily spot n narrow whats causing the error

also happy to help in pm n if you wish to send the apk to check for you

Per a user's request, below is a simple vid with MTmanager being used to edit smarters v3.
This includes editing the appName and packageName in both plain-text and base64.

For ease, it is probably best to have/make a note of the appname and packagename of the "existing/OLD" app you wish to edit as well as your desired new appname n package name...... as shown on the right-hand side notepad in the video.

Also, see relevant timestamps below to make it easier to skip to those sections within the video

Enjoy n hopefully it's useful to one or two

Great Tutorial thanks for sharing this

I wonder if someone could give me hand here. I understand thet MT Manager is the way to go. Bit I want to edit the stings.xml in the Values folder, but The values folder doesnt seem to be available. If I use another tool the values folders are in the RES folder, but seems hidden in Mt Manager. Am I missing something silly?

Hey my friend I did everything thing in video with apk editor pro + and went thru but when putting username and password apk crashes and says apk not original
And I tried on Mt manager but it asks for vip account so do I need a vip
Not the correct way to change the name:

1 - You must search for the name of the app that you are going to modify: res/values/strings.xml :"app_name">NAME
2- Decode the base64 name.
3- After you have the name decoded, Search in the project: smali/f/j/a/k/d/c/a/a.smali
4- Return to point #1 and place the new name (Respecting the capital and small letters)
5- Encode your new name base64
6- Return to point #3 and place the base64 encoded name
7 - save the project and pack again,

I hope it has been of some use to you, regards

The strings.xml file is in resources.arsc

Short question. Can package name contain a number or just letters?
No matter which app.

Or does a number cause problems?

short answer - yes it can have numbers

broadly speaking, as long as the app doesnt have any mandatory specific naming patterns/rules and no other restrictive conditions then use of numbers wouldnt ordinarily cause any issues

you can try it out yourself on smarters, xciptv or app of your interest and see how you get on...... that way you also have first hand "data/info"

Many thanks for your response. Haven't taken any numbers yet. The day before yesterday I tested it in Sparkle and I couldn't find any errors.
