This only shows the string an doesn't change any configuration of the app.

I'm curious why would you want to use software encoder by default in the first place?
it was request and it worked lol i wasnt touching the strings i only this doig a month lol

Yeah, I'm not knocking you mate no matter how long you've been doing it for. My understanding of your post is that you wanted software encoder to be turned on by default.

The edits you've shown in this post hasn't done that so I was letting you know what you wanted hasnt worked. You've changed what the text (string) says in the app, but not the setting. I'd love to know how to change all the default settings in the APK myself but I'm a bit of a noob with smali.

As for software encoding being default, doesn't make sense so I was curious why youd want it. Older versions of Smarters it was the default option, then the developer changed the default to HW encoded (because it makes sense). Practically every TV box out there and phones have chips in them to handle the HW encoding to offload work from the CPU. The only time Ive turned it off is whilst testing with the 4K Max stick, as theres a bug with HW encoding and VLC player that causes some formats to freeze video with audio still going.

You won't be able to play 4K through software encoding on practically every TV box out there. It will struggle and get stupidly hot. I'd even say high bit-rate/frame-rate FHD you'll still struggle and kill your device off quicker from the heat.

Would love a trial to test myself because unless you're using a piss-poor device that doesn't have a HW encoder, then that doesn't make sense that it wouldn't work on the device side. What device are you using that needs to use SW decoding? It's nothing to do with server-side and more device specific.

The only thing I could possibly even think where you'd need it off for live TV, is potentially if it's an older device and struggling with a HVEC part 10 stream which it might not have the encoder for and causing problem. Test on your phone as well as your TV device to check these streams that won't play but you should 100% us HW encoding as default option.

I would probably listen to the people who are saying it hasn't worked and learn from them mate. I think you seeing the changed text in the UI has given you the impression you've changed the settings configuration, but it hasn't. Hats off to you for getting stuck in and learning either way 👍

A good test to see yourself would be to change player settings for movies back to built in player in an unedited app. Then try play a 4K movies with software encoding, then check hardware encoding. Then compare both options with your app you've made changes to.
