very few apps are going to be hardcoded these days ,some older one may be but newer apps will be panelled . its cheap to set up your own hosting and not that hard to do , if your serious about having your own apps then hosting is the way to go.
for instance take this app Spoarkle 1.9.5 it has sports guide , may have imsb backgrounds , may have multi choice of service etc etc all these options come from a panel that is hosted somewhere.
